About Our Miniature Railroad
One of the most popular attractions at the Steam Railroading Institute is the 7 ½ Gauge Miniature Railroad. Beginning operations in 2009, our little trains are 1/8 scale and operates at 7 ½ gauge-or 7 ¼ inches-between the rails. Guest of all ages enjoy this ride of nearly ¼ of a mile of track that parallels the Shiawassee River Trail on the SRI grounds.

Disclaimer: The Steam Railroading Institute will be postponing the 2020 opening day and Spring Hours for visits and tours. The Institute will remain closed to the general public until further notice. Click here for more information.
Spring | April - May: Friday and Saturday, 10am-4pm
Summer | Memorial Day - Labor Day: Thursday through Saturday, 10am-4pm
Fall | September: Friday and Saturday, 10am-4pm
*Operates during scheduled events at the Steam Railroading Institute (Does not operate during North Pole Express)
