At this time, the Steam Railroading Institute remains closed to the public in accordance with our local health department guidelines. We will reopen when it is safe for our staff, volunteers and guests.
About Our Miniature Railroad
One of the most popular attractions at the Steam Railroading Institute is the 7 ½ Gauge Miniature Railroad. Beginning operations in 2009, our little trains are 1/8 scale and operates at 7 ½ gauge-or 7 ¼ inches-between the rails. Guest of all ages enjoy this ride of nearly ¼ of a mile of track that parallels the Shiawassee River Trail on the SRI grounds.

The Steam Railroading Institute is open to private owners bringing their own 7 ½ gauge equipment to operate on the railroad.
