Trains & Tractors
Be our guest for a Summer of Steam and join us with Lehigh Valley Coal Company 126 as we take the Fun in the Sun out on the road in 2019! Surround yourself with antique tractors, historic steam trains, vintage equipment and so much more as we host our event of the summer, the second annual Trains & Tractors; June 15th at the Steam Railroading Institute in Owosso, Michigan. Partnering with the Heart of Michigan Antique Tractor Club, experience the commemoration of the role the railroad and farm industry served for Michigan’s agriculture that continues to this day.
Enjoy our one-hour excursions behind the beauty and strength of the steam-powered locomotive, Lehigh Valley Coal Co. 126, as its scheduled to make a return to Owosso. Passengers will depart from the SRI grounds for a leisurely train ride through the Shiawassee valley in one of our vintage coaches or historic cabooses.
Get up close to a fleet of antique tractors; all beautifully restored and proudly represented by the Heart of Michigan Antique Tractor Club. We will also be hosting public safety vehicles on hand for viewing and display.
In addition, we’ll be having our free, family Open House during Trains & Tractors! Activities include free admission to the Steam Railroading Institute, unlimited rides on our 7 ½ gauge railroad, behind the scenes tours of our equipment and backshop, free water and popsicles, and so much more. Of course, we cannot forget an appearance from Guitar Slim and Hobo Joe as they sing their ol tunes from a bygone era!

Steam locomotive 126 is a 0-6-0 tank engine that was built in 1931 by the Vulcan Iron Works for the Lehigh Valley Coal Company. Restored in 2011 to operating condition by its owners at the Gramling Locomotive Works in Indiana, the 126 has gained an impressive notoriety in offering train rides and excursions throughout the country as well as starring in the Amazon series Have Steam Engine Will Travel. We are excited to have her join us again this year for our Summer of Steam.
Based on availability, a third option for purchasing tickets will be provided at our Welcome Center during the event.
