North Pole Express

This Holiday season, join us for a nostalgic journey back in time to the Christmas of yesteryear when you climb aboard the North Pole Express, pulled by the world-famous Pere Marquette 1225! Depart from the Steam Railroading Institute in Owosso, Michigan for a four-hour, round trip excursion to the Village of Ashley’s Country Christmas. The North Pole Express will operate on Saturdays and Sundays, departing at 10am and 5pm each day, starting on November 16th and concluding on December 21st.

Boardman River Rambler

For the first time in more than 30 years the sound of a Steam Whistle will flow like the Boardman River, where the mighty trout lives and thrives. Ride behind the beauty and strength of the steam-powered locomotive, Lehigh Valley Coal Company 126, as it makes an appearance in Kalkaska for the annual National Trout Festival. The Boardman River Rambler will make its way through Northern Michigan on these one-hour excursions on April 26th & 27th.

Clam Lake Clipper

For the first time in three years, steam returns to Cadillac, Michigan as the Lehigh Valley Coal Company 126 joins in on the Cadillac Lakes Cruise and Car Show; June 8th and 9th. Climb aboard from the City Park and enjoy a one-hour excursion in the beautiful Northern Michigan countryside aboard the Clam Lake Clipper, named after the previous incarnation of today’s Lake Cadillac.

Trains & Tractors

Surround yourself with antique tractors, historic steam trains, vintage equipment and so much more as we host our event of the summer, the second annual Trains & Tractors; June 15th at the Steam Railroading Institute in Owosso, Michigan. Partnering with the Heart of Michigan Antique Tractor Club, experience the commemoration of the role the railroad and farm industry served for Michigan’s agriculture that continues to this day.

Hobo Camp & Free Family Open House

Enjoy our one-hour excursions behind the beauty and strength of the steam-powered locomotive, Lehigh Valley Coal Company 126, as its scheduled to make a return to the Steam Railroading Institute in Owosso. Your next stop will be to our very happy Hobo Camp as a special visitor! Join Guitar Slim and his Hobo Gang as you experience the charm, songs and storytelling of a time gone by.

The Patriot

Join us in beautiful northern Michigan for steam excursions and Independence Day celebrations in beautiful Fife Lake, Michigan. Ride behind the beauty and strength of the steam-powered locomotive, Lehigh Valley Coal Company 126, as it pulls the Patriot through the northern Michigan countryside on these one-hour train rides, July 4th and 5th.

This popular program is a unique opportunity to live the dream of being the engineer while taking a trip back in time to the golden age of steam railroading. Here’s your chance to be the Honorary Engineer of Lehigh Valley Coal Company 126; a beautifully restored 88-year-old, coal fired tank engine!

Cadillac Limited

Join us and the Pere Marquette 1225 on October 5th as we celebrate two major milestones in our incredible story that continues to this day! The Steam Railroading Institute will be commemorating the 50th Anniversary of the Michigan State University Railroad Club and their initial restoration of the 1225 with an all-day excursion behind the world-famous steam locomotive.

This popular program is a unique opportunity to live the dream of being the engineer while taking a trip back in time to the golden age of steam railroading. Here’s your chance to be the Honorary Engineer of Pere Marquette 1225; a 77-year-old superpower that was saved from a scrap yard and is now one of the most famous operating steam locomotives in the world!

Northern Arrow Fall Color Tour

On October 12th and 13th, the Northern Arrow will depart at 10:00am each day from the railroad depot at the Kalkaska Historical Museum for a roundtrip, all-day excursion to Petoskey. Once arriving in Petoskey, passengers can take advantage of what this unique town has to offer by visiting the local businesses or grabbing a bite to eat.

Petoskey Countryside Fall Color Tour

Let us take you on a short, round-trip excursion from Petoskey to see Northern Michigan's fall colors by rail. This hour-long side trip is on October 12th and 13th; departing at 2:00pm and returning at approximately 3:00pm each day from the crossing near Washington Street and Baxter Street in Petoskey. Take in the beautiful October Fall landscape and enjoy the fun of traveling on our train!

Timberliner Fall Color Tour

On October 19th, the Timberliner will depart at 10:00am from downtown Cadillac for a roundtrip, all-day excursion to Clare. Once arriving in Clare, passengers can take advantage of what this unique town has to offer by visiting the local businesses or grabbing a bite to eat. Information on activities and highlighted destinations will be provided on board the train inbound.

This hour-long side trip is on October 19th; departing at 2:00pm and returning at approximately 3:00pm from the historic railroad depot in downtown Clare.
