Help keep steam era railroading alive in these difficult times!
As a 501(c)3 non-profit organization, we at the Steam Railroading Institute (SRI) are doing our best to navigate this complicated and rapidly changing global situation. SRI is dedicated to educating the public about steam era railroading in Michigan and the Great Lakes Region. This includes the preservation of the skills and technology for maintaining steam locomotives by operating steam era equipment and providing the experience of steam locomotives in actual operation.
We believe it’s imperative to be transparent and open during these challenging times. Our annual events and excursions provide SRI with much needed operating support. In accordance with both local and state health officials; we've made the unfortunate decisions to not operate any excursions, and put all onsite events at the Institute on hold for the 2020 season. This of course included the North Pole Express. The Steam Railroading Institute also remains closed to vistitor until further notice.
To ensure our preparation in reopening when it is deemed safe to do so, we are asking you to stand with us. Due to the inability to sell tickets, a large portion of the income it takes to run our organization will be lost. As a result; we are down to limited staff and volunteers, with the Steam Railroading Institute facing an uncertain future.
We understand that many are faced with financial uncertainty as well. If you are unable to help, we fully understand. At your convenience, we would appreciate your support to aid us in preserving our organization. We are continually grateful of the support – at any level – that we receive.
Thank you for the consideration at this critical period. We look forward to reopening and getting our trains running again to keep steam era railroading alive for you and the next generation!
