Due to the recent spike in Michigan Covid-19 cases, particularly in Shiawassee County, the Steam Railroading Institute's Welcome Center will be closed to the public. At this time, we are closed through Saturday April 24th and we hope to reopen to the public on Friday April 30th.
We will keep you updated as we continue to work through this pandemic.
Thank you and stay safe.
The Steam Railroading Institute is home to an impressive library with a variety of railroad content that’s both preserved and archived.
This includes a wide range of literature from books to magazine dating back to the steam era. The prize pieces in our library are hours of historic documents and artifacts that traces back to the early days of the Michigan State University Railroad Club and the very first restoration of Pere Marquette 1225. We’re also proud to contain historic artifacts dating back as far as the days of the Pere Marquette Railway in the early 20th Century!
The SRI Library is located on the ground level of the Welcome Center and is available to the public on the days we’re open.
Covid-19 Safety Procedures
The Steam Railroading Institute is following all CDC and State of Michigan guidelines regarding Covid-19. To ensure the health and safety of our staff, volunteers and visitors alike, we ask that everyone adhere to the current Covid-19 guidelines while on the SRI grounds.
