Due to the recent spike in Michigan Covid-19 cases, particularly in Shiawassee County, the Steam Railroading Institute's Welcome Center will be closed to the public. At this time, we are closed through Saturday April 24th and we hope to reopen to the public on Friday April 30th.

We will keep you updated as we continue to work through this pandemic.

Thank you and stay safe.

One of the most popular attractions at the Steam Railroading Institute is the 7 ½ Gauge Miniature Railroad. Beginning operations in 2009, our little trains are 1/8 scale and operates at 7 ½ gauge-or 7 ¼ inches-between the rails. Guest of all ages enjoy this ride of nearly ¼ of a mile of track that parallels the Shiawassee River Trail on the museum grounds.

Covid-19 Safety Procedures

The Steam Railroading Institute is following all CDC and State of Michigan guidelines regarding Covid-19. To ensure the health and safety of our staff, volunteers and visitors alike, we ask that everyone adhere to the current Covid-19 guidelines while on the SRI grounds.
