Owosso MI –The Steam Railroading Institute (SRI) is excited to be partnering with the Heart of Michigan Antique Tractor Club once again to bring back Trains & Tractors on August 28th. Beginning in 2018, Trains & Tractors is a free summer event hosted on the museum grounds for visitors to experience the commemoration of the role the railroad and farm industry served for Michigan’s agriculture that continues to this day.
Throughout the day from 10am to 4pm, visitors will be surrounded by antique tractors, historic trains, vintage equipment and more. The highlight of course will be the fleet of antique tractors and farming equipment for display. Many restored and operable by members of the Heart of Michigan Antique Tractor Club, these unique and beautiful pieces dates as far back to the early 20th century. Open registration is also available for private owners to bring their own vintage tractors or farming equipment for display at the event. In addition, the “Yard Goat” will be operating once again, providing short caboose rides through the SRI yard to the historic New Buffalo Turntable and back. Since its debut last month, the “Yard Goat” Caboose Rides have grown in popularity by providing an educational experience on what it was like to keep the busy train yards operating like clockwork when the little switchers worked tirelessly around the clock that continues to this very day.
Additional Family Friendly Activities:
- Live Music provided by SRI’s own Los Hobos.
- Train rides on the Institute’s 7.5” gauge miniature railroad around the SRI grounds.
- Tours of SRI’s fleet of historic railroad equipment.
The Steam Railroading Institute is in the process of planning future events & excursions. At this time, there will be no Fall Color Tours for 2021 and preparations are currently underway for 2021 North Pole Express excursions. We hope to have ticket announcements soon!
