We at the Steam Railroading Institute (SRI) are excited to announce our reopening to the public in 2021! Starting on April 2nd, the Institute will be open on Fridays and Saturdays from 10 AM to 4 PM each day throughout the year for visits and tours. The highlight of course is getting up close to the world famous Pere Marquette 1225, fresh from its roller bearing upgrades completion!
Covid-19 Safety Procedures
As many know, this will mark the first time since December 2019 that SRI will be open to the public. The Institute itself had remained closed throughout 2020 with events and excursions on hold due to the Covid-19 Pandemic. The Steam Railroading Institute is following all CDC and State of Michigan guidelines regarding Covid-19. To ensure the health and safety of our staff, volunteers and visitors alike, we ask that everyone adhere to the current Covid-19 guidelines while on the SRI grounds.
Our 7 ½ Gauge Miniature Railroad will resume operations during the Summer Hours, from Memorial Day to Labor Day, and on selected schedule events taking place at the Institute.
The Steam Railroading Institute is NOT offering events and excursions at this time. We cannot give a date as to when this will fully resume, but we’ll continue to follow all CDC and State of Michigan guidelines until it is safe to reopen at full capacity. Future updates and announcements will be made as more information becomes available.
